Facility Hire
Newman College buildings and facilities are provided primarily for College activities. However, community groups and external providers may hire facilities on a limited basis subject to availability.
The College facilities available for hire include:
- Newman Sports Complex and Facilities
- Champagnat Chapel (special events only – by application)
- Frank Ehlers Swimming Pool
- Marist Auditorium
Newman Sports Complex and Playing Fields
The Newman Sports Complex is a multi-purpose facility used by the College and the wider College community. The complex comprises three playing fields that are used for a variety of activities including, football, cricket, soccer, rugby, hockey and other College programs requiring extensive outdoor space; six tennis courts; four netball/basketball courts; a weights training room; and a large indoor stadium/gymnasium featuring sprung wooden flooring that hosts two netball/basketball courts and spectator seating. The space can also accomodate volleyball and badmington. The Clubrooms can hold 250 people and is a perfect venue for a dinner, birthday, cocktail party or corporate seminars/party. The venue comprises a fully serviced bar, toilets, airconditioning, wheel chair access and a weather-proof balcony overlooking the Colleges spectacular playing fields.
Chapel
Honouring the Founder of the Marist Brothers, Saint Marcellin Champagnat, the College commissioned a purpose built Chapel which was blessed and opened in December 2000 by The Most Reverend Barry Hickey (Archbishop of Perth). The Champagnat Chapel, which is primarily used for College activities.
Swimming Pool
The College’s 50 metre swimming pool comprises eight lanes with a large undercover spectator area. It has recently gone through a major upgrade, which has seen the pool become heated for all year round use. The pool was named in honour of Frank Ehlers who was the mainstay in supervising the building of the pool in 1975. Much of the work was done by voluntary labour by the College community.
Auditorium
The Marist Auditorium is a multi-purpose facility situated at Newman College, Churchlands. Featuring a 563 seat Auditorium (with an optional addition of 120 additional seats), the facility also features a dance studio and multiple other function spaces that cater for many different styles of event. The fully retractable tiered seating caters for cabaret style theatre performances and gala dinners, which can then be transformed to a tiered theatre for musicals and dance concerts.
